about usAbout Rusks
What's a rusk? It's a crunchy, baked biscuit. Eat it for breakfast or a snack. It's made like biscotti, but not as sweet and more crumbly. A Good Hope Rusk is like biscotti's little sister who lives in the city, wears a lot of black, and does yoga.
You can find different types of rusks all over the world, but ours are done in the South African style, in unique and intriguing flavors.
All our rusks are 100% whole-grain, and are low in sugar. We make them all by hand, from scratch, with all-natural ingredients, because it just tastes better that way.
About the Company
At Good Hope Rusks, we insist on a fanatical commitment to integrity. What does that mean?
It means that we don't use any science-lab ingredients. Check the ingredient list: every single item we use in our rusks is probably something you have in your pantry. And it means we seek out the best quality ingredients we can get our hands on, with preference towards local producers, organic whenever possible.
It means we stand behind our products. We love 'em. We're so sure you'll love them too, that we guarantee it. Don't love rusks? Send them back! We'll refund your money, and find them a good home.
It means we use recyclable and compostable materials wherever possible. Our packaging is compostable, even the plastic. Our packing peanuts are biodegradable (they dissolve in water, which is totally cool to watch). We use recycled-paper parchment for baking, and try to use reusable cloths instead of paper towels whenever we can. And we're always trying to do better.
It means every bag of rusks you buy equals real money donated to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Not everyone has the means to enjoy our rusks, so we do what we can to make sure everyone at least has access to real food. We'd like to feed the world ourselves, but it's not humanly possible. We do the next best thing.
It means we offer obnoxiously good customer service. Whether you're ordering rusks online, or a retailer selling them in your store, we want everyone we deal with to walk away with a smile, even if you don't buy anything from us. Smiles are great.
And it means when we say our rusks are made with so much love you won't believe it, we're dead serious.
The Lady Behind It All
I'm Elizabeth Prewitt, also known as your Head Rusketeer. I'm also a Personal Chef, and believe everyone can and should eat healthy, real food. Finding myself in need of nutritious snacks that darn well better taste amazing, I realized that my answer to that problem -- Good Hope Rusks -- would help other busy people too.
The chemicals in ultra-processed, shelf-stable products aren't good food, and I don't think anybody should eat them. It's my mission in life to make sure nobody has to.
I hope you love my rusks as much as I do!
